‘WISH ME LUCK’ by Wallows – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★☆

With the release of their latest single, ‘WISH ME LUCK,’ the American alternative rock band Wallows are bringing the crunch that they are known for to the forefront of the scene. The breakout band release an indie masterpiece here, and we simply cannot get enough of it right about now.

The group from LA are on a quest to quench our thirst. Moreover, they are doing all in their power to do it, including fusing their addictive modern sound with aspects of nostalgia. In addition, the track begins with their wall of sound striking us like a tonne of bricks. It continues in the same manner throughout. Yet, we enjoy it, and it does not cause any discomfort; in fact, it is rather ear-pleasing!

Boundaries

The great thing about Wallows is that they are not afraid to push the boundaries of the scene and their own style. Moreover, they accomplish exactly that here with the song ‘WISH ME LUCK’. Their music is infectious, and with this track, which closes out their year with a bang, they imprint their name even further into the indie songbook of 2022.

Given that another version of this track emerged quite some time ago, the song in question is not brand new in its entirety. Therefore, it will not come as a surprise to any die-hard fans of Wallows. However, this will be a breath of fresh air for many new listeners and us. Also, it reminds us why indie rock will always have a place at the forefront of current music.
