Guide
You know that feeling when your phone buzzes at 2 AM and you already know what’s coming? Nathan Bryce and Loaded Dice turned that exact scenario into a song, and honestly, it’s going to hit different depending on which side of that late night call you’ve been on.
“Drunk Dial Baby” is out now, and it’s a total curveball from what these guys normally do. Instead of the heavier blues rock they’ve made their name on, they’ve pivoted into something funkier, groovier, something that just feels good even when the lyrics are making you uncomfortable in the best way possible.
The Groove That Just Works
The song opens with this vibe that immediately sets the scene. Bryce’s vocals pull you right into that moment of recognition when you see a familiar name pop up on your screen late at night. “She only calls me after a couple shots of whiskey,” he sings, and yeah, you get it instantly. The band locks in around him with Jerry Paswater’s bass sitting deep in the pocket while Dylan Halacy’s drums keep everything moving forward with serious pocket. Bryce’s guitar doesn’t just sit there either. It weaves quietly through the verses, then absolutely explodes when the chorus hits like someone just threw the switch on.
Funny and Painful at the Same Time
What makes this track work is how it refuses to pick a side. It’s funny but it’s also real. That dopamine hit when her name lights up your screen? It’s there. The knowledge that you’re going to pick up that phone no matter what? That’s there too. The bridge is where Bryce really nails it: “She just wants a little rock and roll to fill the holes in her soul.” That one line explains everything about the whole dynamic, and then he follows it with the kicker that perfectly sums up why guys keep answering: “I’ll pick up that phone. Every. Damn. Time.”
From Backing Band to Main Stage
The Kansas City trio spent the last three years backing Australian guitar talent Taj Farrant, which probably gave them time to work on their own sound and figure out exactly what they wanted to say. Now they’re stepping forward with their own material, bringing that mix of classic rock, blues, and Southern rock influences they’ve been perfecting.
Don’t Sleep on This One
