Imperfect’ by Kate Nash – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★

Kate Nash returns with her new single, ‘Imperfect’. Here, she brings the old-school teen pop vibes back to 2022! The fresh release from the British singer-songwriter comes from her next album, ‘Nine Sad Symphonies’; due out in May of this year.

It’s hard to believe that Kate Nash’s smash hit ‘Foundations’ is 15 years old; where did the time go? Nevertheless, even after all this time, Kate Nash still has the golden pop touch, and she does not disappoint here with this delivery!

Reinvigorated

‘Imperfect’ hits home right away with easy to follow lyrics that stand out with aplomb. There’s a Lily Allen vibe here as well. But, this is not surprising given that both singers were on the radio simultaneously and emerged from the scene at the same time. Nonetheless, Kate manages to bring a new element to the forefront. Furthermore, her vocals sound reinvigorated, with her tones leaving us gripped to her every note!

The music is intriguing. Moreover, as the track proceeds, we hear a variety of unique elements that, on paper, appear to be a bit dubious. However, everything comes together brilliantly in the mix, and the drums pulse away with powerful cadence and synergise well with the dreamy pop synth loops and compelling bass grooves.

Speaking about the release, Kate said: “I’ve been writing for TV, film and musical theatre recently, and it’s been so liberating as I get to explore different sides of being a songwriter. With ‘Imperfect’, I was able to sink quickly back into the mind of my 13-year-old self and sing through my hairbrush once again.”
