Rihanna climbed the charts recently for an album which was actually fake according to reports.

The album titled ‘Angel’ was in fact an unauthorised record. It consisted of unreleased tracks and was uploaded by ‘Fenty Fantasia’. Hilariously, the album was that popular among the listeners that it debuted at number 67 on the iTunes worldwide chart. Fans have since commented that the tracks on the album had actually been in circulation online since 2009. They said the songs were just demos which never saw a release on any other album.

Larry Miller, director of the music business program at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Music spoke to Rolling Stone in January. He said, “People just don’t hear about it because it just doesn’t happen all the time with the biggest artist in the world. Due to the changes in music distribution and the technology of distribution and consumption, these kinds of leaks, whether secret or not, are far more likely to happen than ever.”

Moreover, the ‘Umbrella’ singer is indeed going to be releasing new music this year. But ‘Angel’ is not the album which her loyal worldwide fan base are waiting for.

Nevertheless, ‘Angel’ saw huge reach throughout its short lived existence. However Apple were quick to remove it and have yet to comment on the recent situation.
