Thomas Cole’s new single “Stubble” is out now, and it takes a five o’clock shadow and turns it into a whole philosophy about attraction. That’s a pretty strong move for a pop song, but Thomas pulls it off with a chorus that gets stuck in your head before you’ve even learned the words.
A Familiar Sound With A New Angle
The track sits in familiar territory for Thomas: bouncy, flirtatious, built for a dance floor or a car ride with the windows down. Produced by Electropoint, it leans into the electro pop sound he’s known for, but there’s a subtle country twang running through it that keeps things from feeling too slick. The bass line under the chorus hits harder than the rest of the arrangement prepares you for, which is a nice trick when a lot of pop songs settle for one big drop and call it a day.
The Idea Underneath The Hook
Thomas has said “everyone has a story they survived, the stubble is simply the evidence,” and that line explains exactly what the song is doing. Instead of writing another track about chasing someone polished and put together, Thomas is writing about noticing someone because of their rough edges, not despite them. The bar scene flirting in the lyrics is playful, sure, but there’s a real point being made about authenticity and what actually draws people to each other.

It’s a smart angle for a pop single. Most songs in this genre chase perfection, smooth vocals, flawless hooks, an image that never slips. “Stubble” does the opposite. It takes something a lot of guys shave off every morning and turns it into a symbol of maturity and confidence, which gives the song more weight than the average summer single usually carries.
The Video And The Bigger Picture
The music video released alongside the track matches that same energy, playful and self assured without undercutting the song’s more grounded message.
