Bite Me‘ by Avril Lavigne – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★☆

With her new track, ‘Bite Me,’ Avril Lavigne is back and better than ever. The pop-punk princess’s new single is the first from her new record label, Travis Barker’s DTA Records.

Given that Barker owns the label, it’s no surprise that he had an impact on the song; he even appears in the official music video alongside Avril and adds his characteristic percussion sound to the track. Furthermore, the two of them work together with seamless enthusiasm, smashing through the industry gates as if it were the early 2000s all over again.

‘Bite Me’ is everything you’d expect from Avril Lavigne. It’s direct, full of rock intensity, and it’ll be soothing to the ears of anyone who’s been a fan of her music for decades. Her vocals are potent. Also, she demonstrates that she still has the golden touch with unrivalled performance in the present scene.

Speaking about the meaning behind the new song, Avril said: “It’s a song about self-worth and really standing up for yourself and just being like, ‘You know what, you didn’t treat me right. You didn’t treat me well, and that doesn’t work for me. So baby, you can bite me.” The music video conveys this mood without ambiguity, with Avril seeking vengeance on an ex and Travis Barker expressing his disgust in their actions.
