Amanda Marie Wilkinson is back with her latest single, ‘Taking My Time’ and she stopped by to have a chat with Colby.

Colby: What Do You Enjoy Most About Being A Musician?

Amanda: Through my writing, I am able to do so many things expressively and there is no right or wrong way of doing it, no holding back, no eggshells to walk on, and just like any art form- it is appreciated by someone who is able to see it and understand. In this case, listen. Through writing, I can whole-heartedly share my points of view, feelings, emotions, experiences and that is so therapeutic. It is freedom. Music is a process that no one can tell or stop you from speaking your mind.

Colby: Which Track Of Yours Means The Most To You?

Amanda: To be very honest, one track that means a lot to me has not been released yet but on the way very very soon! It is called “Nothing To Lose (When You Say GoodBye) it is a true anthem, it is fiery, it is all the emotions and feels to empower and remind anyone that it is always OK to walk away from what is not good for you and you have nothing to lose, but instead to gain all of the greater things you deserve when you do. It is a sequel I guess to “Taking My Time”- which takes you through that process of moving on and moving forward to better. Bringing you to that great place. Every one of my songs is very different from one another though. They each come from a different experience and so they each mean a lot to me, especially Spiritual Level. That song was written based on a beautiful and strong connection I have with someone and well those in my life.

Colby: The First-Ever Gig You Played, Can You Remember It? How Was It?

Amanda: Everything was virtual. I had the comfort of being in my own space but just like anything, there is always some issue- technologically, etc. I say every experience is a good one. We only live, learn, and grow from each one.

Colby: What Do You Think Is The Key To Success As A Musician?

Amanda: Never let yourself go to the opinions or lack thereof from others. It is not about the likes and follows, but the impact you have through your voice. Remaining authentic will always give you the peace within and keeping up your joy while living your passions. Not one can take that away from you unless you allow for others to dictate who you should be, especially as an artist. Doesn’t that already sound absurd? I believe in authenticity. If only 10 people heard my song, well that is 10 more people that I impacted in the way it was intended through my music.

Colby: If You Wasn’t A Musician, What Job Would You Be Doing?

Amanda: Everything I continue to do today. I am a woman of many hats and when I am not writing music or recording, I am in my roots of film, writing for the community, utilizing my skills in healthcare and other things, and simply living my passions each day. It is what keeps us full. No one is limited to their fulfilment. Go for all of your desires, there is never a mistake or regret to that.
