‘LUMBERJACK‘ by Tyler, The Creator – Single Rating: 3/5 ★★★
Tyler, The Creator, is back in the hip hop game with ‘LUMBERJACK,’ and it’s a dope single. However, it isn’t quite the most unique treasure we’ve heard in recent memory, and a bit more creativity along the way would have been beneficial. Furthermore, Tyler appears to have gone full circle and has gone back to an early sound.
Nevertheless, Tyler, The Creator, does shine with his trademark rap quality leaping out from the outset. The music is also energising, with an upbeat hip hop tempo riding alongside a rattling lead hook. There’s also a lot of backing in the music, with many lyrics and vocals echoing out in the background, but it’s a little chaotic, and the brain works overtime trying to keep up with everything going on in the mix.
A Song About Wealth
Lyrically, the song appears to be about obtaining success as a rapper, with numerous references to money. Tyler also doesn’t hold back when it comes to his wealth, detailing how he gets out of his Rolls Royce. He also says he has a ‘milli‘ for Drake. The poem isn’t particularly insightful, but it does provide us with a glimpse into Tyler’s current existence as The Creator.
‘LUMBERJACK‘ will be on Tyler, The Creator’s new album to come out on the 25th of June. It is the seventh studio record from the rapper.
