One Man Party’ by Twin Atlantic – Single Rating: 3/5 ★★★

With their new release, ‘One Man Party,’ Scottish indie rockers Twin Atlantic tone it down a tad. It’s from ‘Transparency,’ the band’s next album, which is to arrive early next year.

It’s the polar opposite of their previous rock jewels. Also, while it shows that they’re not afraid to try new things, it seems to stray too far from their faithful fanbase’s tastes. Nevertheless, it’s not a horrible song. Furthermore, there are lots of exciting parts inside the architecture. But, it doesn’t grasp the ears as tightly as, say, their earlier anthems from the first records, even after a few listens.

No Predetermined Route

The fact that there is no predetermined route helps. Also, the group defies expectations and staying away from the status quo is one of the track’s most refreshing aspects. Regardless, is it genuinely original? There’s a Strokes flavour throughout, particularly in the refrain, which features quick guitar riffs and melodies that we’re familiar with from the Strokes era.

Speaking about the new record, Singer Sam McTrusty said: “After the challenges put in front of everyone in 2020 and 21 I did what I’ve always done in moments of turmoil, stress or anxiety and started to write songs. It slowly evolved into an album and something we feel puts a new stamp on our band which really excites us.”
