West Hills‘ by The Killers – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★

‘West Hills’ by The Killers is one of the most salient tracks to rise from the Rock group in recent times. It’s from the band’s latest album, ‘Pressure,’ which is available now.

The track begins with a newfangled dialogue about community and residing in a single neighbourhood for the rest of one’s life. A guitar with a banjo-like arrangement arrives out of nowhere, and it doesn’t sound like anything you’d expect from The Killers. Even the most irrational estimates would suggest that this isn’t the band from Las Vegas if Brandon’s vocals were not present in the opener.

It’s not a terrible thing, though, because the band are still exploring and expanding their sound. But, with their lengthy melodies rising to the top of the mix, the refrain takes on a more ‘Killers’ tone. There’s also a U2 vibe, which is unsurprising given that Flowers frequently consults Bono for advice. Also, the ‘With Or With You’ rockers have influenced The Killers for many years.

Brandon is in mesmerising vocal form, and his narrative about belonging conveys a striking message. “There are a lot of young individuals who are unsure of their place in this world,” the artist recently stated. The tune, as well as the rest of the album, perfectly captures his quote. Likewise, the music is superb, with many new elements that pave the way for the innovative rock band.
