Song Analysis (Make It On Your Own Review)
“Make It On Your Own” is an instant crowd-pleaser with a huge sound that reminds us why the band are still one of the best rock bands in the UK right now. If you are a longtime fan of Stereophonics, or if you are just discovering them for the first time, then you are in for a treat here! The song is in the key of A Major and it has a cinematic quality which creates an immediate impact. What I love most about the song is the energy which can be felt and the striking guitar riffs are medicine for my ears.
Stereophonics – “Make It On Your Own” Lyrics (Make It On Your Own Review)
One, two, three, four
Buckle up, it’s time to go
To those places you don’t wanna go
Nothing lasts forever
Over the hills and winding roads
Float in the seas and woods that grow
Swallow me whole, surrender
You think I’m anti-fragile
My glass don’t break
Don’t build your wall so high, escape
All your fears are locked inside of you
Love is trying to break on through
Knuckle down and bend your bow
Shoot the arrow, let fires glow
The sun won’t burn forever
What stars align, what goes up in smoke
What breaks your heart, what hurts you most
Ends up in the rear-view mirror
You think I’m anti-fragile
My glass don’t break
Don’t build your wall so high, escape
All your fears are locked inside of you
Love is trying to break on through
Are you trapped under the ice
The lake we swam in brighter times?
Are you trying to find the hole to breathe
And make it on your own, own?
Make it on your own
Own, own, make it on your own
You think I’m anti-fragile
My glass don’t break
Don’t build your wall so high, escape
All your fears are locked inside of you
Love is trying to break on through
Are you trapped under the ice
The lake we swam in brighter times?
Are you trying to find the hole
So you can make it on your own, own?
Make it on your own
Own, own, make it on your own
Buckle up, it’s time to go
To those places you don’t wanna go
Nothing lasts forever
Meaning (My Opinion) (Make It On Your Own Review)
Kelly Jones talks about personal development, emotional struggle, and the search of inner freedom from anxiety. The opening lines, “to those places you don’t want to go” suggest a readiness to face tough facts or emotional pain and Kelly sets a tone of eventual confrontation with suffering. The expression “nothing lasts forever” also emphasises the fleeting character of suffering, love, even personal identity. Nature pictures such as hills, oceans and forests mirror the flux of life and the impression of being buried or overwhelmed by it. Still, there is also an undertone of acceptance and surrender, as if the only path ahead is to yield to the experience.
The repeated phrase “You think I’m anti-fragile / My glass don’t break” challenges the perception of emotional invulnerability. It implies that people often mistake composure for resilience, while inside, fragility and fear still exist. The song urges us not to write ourselves off, but to confront what’s hidden within us; it is very inspiring by Kelly!
