Selena Gomez takes us down a new route with her latest release, ‘De Una Vez’. The track is very distinctive to her last and not only because she sings in Spanish.

It is the Spanish debut release from the Texas native. It sounds powerful, and although I cannot understand a word she is saying, it still gets me gripping on. Nevertheless, I did translate her words into English, and she is expressing heartbreak.

Furthermore, the intro line reads “It does not hurt me like before, the injury form your love has healed“. Many will draw a link to Justin Bieber. But, I am not convinced. She is over Justin now. For me, it is a reflection of a generic heartbreak as opposed to a particular relationship.

Latin

The music follows a Latin path and Selena keeps the Latin trend at the top of the game. So much so, I imagine we will get many more Latin-esque tracks popping out of the scene as we progress through 2021. Also, Selena is likely to drop another Spanish track very soon; it would surprise me if this is the only one.

So, is this the right direction for Selena? Well, it will open up the market for her in Spanish speaking countries. Also, we are all accustomed to listening to music in a foreign tongue these days. As a result, I reckon it will be a success. Mind you, had this come out a several years ago, it would not have even got a look in over here in the western world. Times have changed, for the better!
