Don’t Stand Down’ by Muse – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★☆

Muse are back with ‘Don’t Stand Down’, and they’re as formidable as ever, dazzling the airwaves with their stadium rock quality! With this delivery, the band unleash thunder that rivals some of their best tunes to date. In addition, we see the band return to the sound that catapulted them to the top in the first place, and they once again make metal cool!

‘Don’t Stand Down’ is everything you’d expect from the rock band that rose to prominence in the early 2000s. Fast forward to now, and they’re just as powerful, if not more so, as they move into a harder rock realm, with screamo elements developing as the song progresses.

Dribbling From The Gullet

The new single begins with a cinematic synth aura jumping from the speakers. The crunch of the guitars and percussion hits us like a tonne of bricks. Also, frontman Matt Bellamy smashes it out of the park with a vocal performance that leaves us dribbling from the gullet. He speaks in a ferocious tone, he is unafraid to tell his story, and he will never surrender, instead finding new strength every day!

From the first note of this track, it’s evident that Muse have raised the standard for riff-rock in 2022! The riffs are heavy, and what better way to start the new year than with some solid rock? Is this also an indication of where Muse will go with future releases? It looks to be the case; less abrasive material appears to be a thing of the past, with their original rock juice returning to the vanguard.
