James Bay, the English singer-songwriter, is sending a shockwave across the indie and pop realms with his new single ‘Give Me The Reason’, and it’s easy to understand why.

‘Give Me The Reason’ is a captivating song. It’s rich with emotion, with Bay frequently reflecting on a relationship and attempting to figure out where things went wrong. The singer doesn’t mince his words, and he sings from his heart which is refreshing given the number of simultaneous tracks which follow generic lyrical arrangements.

Infectious Vocal

James Bay kicks the song off by showcasing his infectious vocal skills. His vocal delivery improves, and he has a style that many musicians have adopted in recent years; in fact, if you listen to the most popular tunes on Spotify right now, you’ll almost certainly hear a similar method. However, James manages to take us on a personal journey. His melodic line in the opener is piercing, and it captures the ears with its sincere, melancholy texture.

A percussive rhythm taps away following the intro, followed by a distant piano arrangement with an unmistakable Ed Sheeran vibe. Then we get a top-notch chorus performance from James Bay, who smashes the ball even further out of the park with his vocal.

The message becomes more powerful as the song unfolds, and James sings without ambiguity. He recognises that something is wrong with his circumstances, and he requests his other half to give him another chance or explain why not.
