Psychedelic indie band, Temples are back flying high with their new release ‘Paraphernalia’.

Fusing 60s hooks with a new foundation, the band do not disappoint with them driving their signature sound forward with genuine conviction. I first came across this band many years ago having been given a ticket to see them perform in a hazy indie basement. I knew at that point that this group of men were onto something unique. Since then, they have cemented themselves in the most distinct indie band category of recent times.

Eastern Influence

‘Paraphernalia’ kicks off with an eastern sounding melody gliding through the airwaves. It also boasts a catchy backbeat which grips us instantly with its infectious rhythm. The sound then catapults even further forward with a stomping fundamental before a sublime vocal from frontman, James Bagshaw. Vocally, James sounds exquisite with his dreamy aura popping to the forefront of the mix.

The chorus is memorable. Moreover, it follows a similar vibe to their previous releases with them bringing a catchy melody which is challenging to resist. It for me sounds in the space of fellow indie band, ‘Blossoms’ and they both share close similarities. Therefore, for anyone who loves the Stockport group, you will also love this new one from Temples.

As the track progresses, more new sounds appear. Also, the vocals become even more anthemic and melodic with them synergising well with the synth lead line. The finale is colossal with the guitar picking up the pace and jumping out like a jack in a box. Structurally they mix it up towards the latter with a piano arrangement taking us back down to earth in awe-inspiring fashion.
