‘Bad Habit’ by Steve Lacy – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★☆

Compton, California-based singer-songwriter Steve Lacy invites all of us into his world with his new single, ‘Bad Habit’. The first track from Steve to find its way into our reviews area, yet one that has left all of us wondering why it took us so long to recognise his incredible talent.

Although Steve Lacy does not invent anything new with his music, he integrates a wide variety of sounds and influences to produce something unmistakably his own. In addition, he does an excellent job of combining an R&B foundation with a lo-fi indie-pop guitar element here on ‘Bad Habit’; the result is fascinating.

This song has a dreamy air. Also, Steve adds substance to the mix with a vocal performance that envelops the listener’s spirit. It is a thrilling experience that we won’t soon forget, thanks to his enticing tones and self-assurance. Additionally, the music and vocals have a cutting edge, and the production retains the original dynamics. It is something often lost in modern music.

Lacy was an undiscovered producer not so long ago. But is now a dominant figure on the international scene demonstrating that success is within reach for everyone who puts in the effort.

‘Bad Habit’ will be on Lacy’s upcoming album ‘Gemini Rights’, out on the 15th of July.
