Sam Fender hits the sweet spot with his new release, ‘Winter Song‘. It is a track which speaks about the colder months, and Sam picks up where he left off.

Vocally, Fender is a driving force, and he proves why he is one of the most poignant vocalists of modern times. Furthermore, he pushes through with vigour and his energy howls through the mix with omnipotent flavour.

Musically, ‘Winter Song‘ stays relatively condensed throughout with a chilling tempo. Also, there is nothing too complicated in the instrumental foundation, but it works very well. Furthermore, a piano arrangement radiates from the start with a bold tone and a distant string section leaps forward. However, there is no drum beat in this release, but it does not sound unusual, so much so, I doubt you will even realise.

Sam also mentions Christmas in this gem, but it is far from a Christmas song in the typical sense. Nevertheless, the star sings with a relatable lyricism which many will connect with from the instant. Also, he sticks to his routes with a northern sound popping to the top of the mix with an old folky texture.

Influence

Overall, ‘Winter Song‘ grips like Jack Frost nipping at your nose. It charms with a piercing message and Sam takes us far from our chair and into a serene wintertime world. Also, the singer delves deep with his message, and he rises to the occasion with his influence from Bruce Springsteen and Jonie Mitchell becoming present. Nevertheless, he also stands out with unique quality, and it is challenging to skip away once it begins.
