Why is everybody trying to sound like Billie Eilish? Please Please Please singers and Matilda, be original! Billie Eilish is here now, and we do not need a replica. Go back to the drawing-room and come back with an original sound.

So, why am I ranting? Well, I randomly came across this new single ‘Japan’ by Matilda Mann, and it is one of the many tracks which are trying to jump on the Billie Eilish hype. Furthermore, it has substantial similarity to Eilish with the soft vocals dripping with an immediate effect. Why do we need another?

It is sad really that Matilda did not delve into her own realm a little further. It is a shame because her songwriting is on point and musically, ‘Japan’ is serene with pleasant qualities, also the young star does have talent! However, the track follows a well-travelled road, and it does not delve into a corner of its own enough for me to warrant it an impeccable release.

Pet Hate

As a reviewer, it is my pet hate when I hear bands and artists try to sound similar to others. Therefore, this one from Matilda Mann is not ticking any of my boxes. Also, it is a track which I doubt I will come back to again. Maybe it is her producer who said this was an excellent route to go down? If so, remove them quickly Matilda because this track is about as original as someone saying ‘Cheeky Nandos’.

So, what is next for Matilda Mann? For me, I hope she discovers her authentic sound because sadly, this one leans far too much into the status quo and it is not often we write such a review like this.
