Last Train Home’ by John Mayer – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★

American singer-songwriter John Mayer stupefies once again with his latest release, ‘Last Train Home‘. The single is from John’s upcoming new album ‘Sob Rock‘, out on the 16th of July.

Last Train Home‘ takes a route back to yesteryear with an 80’s influence rising out of the compound from the get-go. Furthermore, the synth overture is akin to ‘Africa‘ by ToTo, but John soon soaks the mix with his signature quality as he progresses.

Flying Form Vocally

Vocally, John Mayer is on flying form with his angelic tones taking leaps and bounds in the centre. He is fearless with his approach; it paves off with a memorable soundscape with nostalgic hooks fusing themselves to modern licks.

Maren Morris also lends her hand to the new release with her infectious vocal quality. Speaking about her addition, John recently said, “Maren was kind enough to come by the studio last December and sing her tail off on ‘Last Train Home’. I consider her one of the best musicians and communicators around, and to have her voice on the song is a real honor.”

It is not just the vocal that is compelling either. Moreover, the guitar riffs cut through the speakers with stadium-filling quality. Likewise, the drums bolster the foundation with a steady arrangement which again takes hints from some of the most prominent tracks which have risen previously.
