Jack Johnson can do little wrong in my eyes. He has a unique approach to songwriting which grips me time and time again. It is no exception with his new delivery, ‘The Captain Is Drunk‘.

Bringing his signature quality back to the top of the acoustic game, he charms his way through with conviction. Furthermore, it all gets underway with his serene guitar rhythm, which glides through the airwaves with a passionate sentiment.

Vocal Performance

Jack then leaps forward for a nail-biting vocal performance. He sings with his heart on his sleeve. Also, he leaves us on the edge of our seat. Especially, with his message expressing how someone (the captain) is looking for something, most likely a lover. The subject wants to prove something, and although we are not sure what it is, they are going to do it despite possible obstacles.

Lyrically, Jack is potent. As a result, he proves that he is not just a killer songwriter but also a strong storyteller. It is what makes Jack’s tracks so profound, and it keeps me coming back to him with each release. Also, the music arrangement adds weight to the already full vocal, and although the mix is some-what uncomplex, it stills brings energy which is difficult to refuse.

As the track progresses, Jack unleashes an angelic backing harmony which sticks to the mix like glue. Also, his heavenly tone pierces at the heartstrings with his words flowing easily. Additionally, he brings warmth to the winter months, leaving an indent like no other.
