Song Analysis (I’ll Kick A Brick (For My Man) Review)
Jenny Langer is the star of this storm. Her vocals are fierce and also unwavering, carrying a powerful message of devotion with just the right mix of grit and sass. She doesn’t plead — she promises. The lyrics read like a battle cry: she’s not just standing by her man, she’s ready to kick down doors or bricks to defend him. It’s empowering, raw, and refreshingly bold.
Instrumentally, “I’ll Kick A Brick” grooves with all the polish of seasoned pros. Randy Jacobs’ guitar licks are rhythmic, nasty in the best way, and incredibly hooky. Ron Holloway’s saxophone adds a splash of classic soul energy that elevates the whole vibe, while Gregg Bissonette’s drumming keeps the engine chugging with machine-like precision and organic swing.
The Boneshakers – “I’ll Kick A Brick (For My Man)” Lyrics (I’ll Kick A Brick (For My Man) Review)
Guess I’m tryna tell you how I feel
(How do you feel?)
My lo-ove for my man is real
Take my word ’cause it sure ain’t jivin’
(She ain’t jivin’)
For as long as the day I’m strivin’
You might say I’m sick
But for my man I’ll kick a brick
(Kick, kick, kick a brick)
Oh yes I will
→ Hey, hey, hey girls, try and understand
(Ooh ooh ooh)
Don’t you mess around with my good man
(Ooh ooh ooh)
Just as long as wool stays nappy
I’m gonna do my best to keep my man happy
Go on and say I’m sick
But for my man I’ll kick a brick
(Kick, kick, kick a brick)
Oh yes I will, oh yes I will
(Solo / horns over verse)
Whoa, whoa yeah
(She’ll kick a brick)
(She’ll kick a brick)
Fast and quick, make [?]
(She’ll kick a brick)
Pickup:
I know, oh I know
That this will keep confusion down
(Ooh ooh ooh)
When my man’s here, don’t you come around
(Ooh ooh ooh)
Tippin’ and trippin’ might be fun
I bet your life you’re gonna die young
Go on and say I’m sick
For this man I’ll kick a brick
(Kick, kick, kick a brick)
Oh yes I will
→ Hey hey hey girl!
Don’t you mess with my man
I’m gonna hold on as long as I can
For my man I can act a clown
Even go as far as shootin’ ya down
I bet my life, I’ll kick a brick
(Kick, kick, kick a brick)
Oh I will, I will now!
(Hey yeah I will now)
Don’t you know I will
Don’t you know I will
(She’ll kick a brick)
Don’t mess with my man
(She’ll kick a brick)
When I have him, don’t mess with my man
(She’ll kick a brick)
(She’ll kick a brick)
Meaning (My Opinion) (I’ll Kick A Brick (For My Man) Review)
The lyrics to me express fierce devotion, loyalty as well as protectiveness in a relationship. Jenny declares her unwavering love for her man and is willing to go to extreme lengths to defend and keep him in her life. It is symbolized by the repeated vow to “kick a brick,” a metaphor for taking bold action if needed. The song also carries a warning to others not to interfere or try to come between them both. But, underneath its playful and soulful energy, the lyrics touch on themes of pride, identity, and resilience particularly from a woman who refuses to be undermined or disrespected in her relationship.
