The BBC’s children’s channel CBeebies have elected to suspend the Bedtime Stories segment, starring Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme, after an incident involving the lead singer and a photographer at a recent gig.

The ‘incident’ was in fact Homme, following his KROQ performance, kicking a female photographer, Chelsea Lauren, in the face. As you can imagine, this was not exactly viewed as family-friendly by the BBC’s infant entertainment arm. Punting professionals in the head is not something they would like to promote to the kids, it seems.

Homme issued a statement regarding the kick, saying, “I kicked the camera of a photographer, and that camera hit the photographer in the face.”

He added: “I don’t have any excuse or reason to justify what I did. I was a total dick, and I’m truly sorry, and I hope you’re OK … I’m gonna have to figure out some stuff, I think. Cos rock’n’roll is a wonderful thing. It’s supposed to save and help people, not mess them up.”

In response to Homme’s actions, Chelsea Lauren stated via Instagram, “my neck is sore, my eyebrow bruised and I’m a bit nauseous.” She also said she was going to file a police report against the front-man. Lauren added that the attack was, “obviously very intentional … He looked straight at me, swung his leg back pretty hard and full-blown kicked me in the face.”

Well, at least the lack of subtlety is consistent with Homme’s musical style. His flailing boot clattering with Lauren’s head really reflected the brash nature of the band’s distorted tones.

Homme was right, it’s not rock’n’roll, it’s brutality. His Bedtime Stories will have to wait until he is justly condemned for his profoundly uncouth display. We’ll have to wait and see what the BBC decide is a suited sentence.
