Spotify, the streaming site with up to 70 million users worldwide, could see an increase in this figure, as they have recently expanded the service into a multi-media platform.



The platform has branched out from its music only content and now includes audio content, visual elements, music news, podcasts and audio books. This additional feature which goes by the name of, Spotify Spotlight offers a range of different content, accessible all in one place and at any time.

Courtney William Holt, Head of Studios and Video said: “We are excited to launch Spotlight, a new format that merges great storytelling, news, information and opinion with visual elements all delivered in playlist form across a number of content categories.”



The streaming site are set to partner with BuzzFeed News, Cheddar, Crooked Media, Lenny Letter, Gimlet Media, Genius, The Minefield Girl, Refinery29 and Uninterrupted, who will create content for the site.

Programming content will include a range of voices and view points, including subjects and information on news, pop culture, sports, politics and music.

Podcasts have been growing by 10 to 20% in popularity every year as suggested by Convince &



Convert who analysed Edison Research’s 2017 podcast statistics. Therefore, its editable Spotify are looking to take advantage of a growing market.

Matt Lieber, co-founder and president, Gimlet Media said: “We’re excited to see partners like Spotify investing in podcasting to enhance the audience’s experience of our storytelling.”



“Everything at Gimlet begins with audio, and with Spotlight, through new visual expressions of shows, we hope to reach new listeners in fresh and original ways.”

Unfortunately, Spotify Spotlight is currently only available in the US. However, Spotify have said the feature will be available in additional markets soon. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long be too long, as I’m sure we all eager to see what the hype is about.
