Kick Ass‘ by Bryan Adams – Single Rating: 3/5 ★★★

Bryan Adams’ latest single, ‘Kick Ass’, is out now. It’s a single that’ll appeal to Adams’ die-hard fans, and there are a lot of them, so he’ll have plenty of support for this new release.

On the other hand, ‘Kick Ass’, is a touch too cliche for us! It’s a standard rock and roll track, almost like something out of a cheesy movie where the band ends up rocking out at the end. Musically, it’s solid; all of the instruments are of high quality, and Bryan Adams’ vocals are stunning. However, it becomes a tinge too generic when you put it all together, and Bryan’s extremely classic lyrics do not help matters.

Rock and roll is best when it is iconic, but there is nothing hugely original here on ‘Kick Ass’. Bryan did not change the wheel too much, and the single borrows heavily from several prior rock classics. Furthermore, the drums have a contemporary rock backbeat, and the chord structure isn’t that unusual, as we’ve heard it many times before. The vocals are also reminiscent of early Bryan Adams. As a result, it leaves us questioning, wondering what void this track is filling. We’ve concluded that this is a piece of music primarily for his devoted fan base; yeah, it may attract a few new listeners, but it isn’t unique enough to stand out among the burgeoning talent out there today.
