Brunio Who, “Brunio’s Mind” – New Music

Bruno Gugliano is doing something different out of Buenos Aires, and honestly, it caught me off guard in the best way possible. His project Brunio Who just dropped “Brunio’s Mind,” and calling it just an album feels like missing the point entirely.

This thing spans 16 tracks, but it’s really the first season of something bigger. Gugliano isn’t playing by the usual rules here. One minute you’re in this introspective headspace, the next you’re pulled into nocturnal energy that feels like wandering through Buenos Aires after midnight. The whole thing moves.

What gets me is how Gugliano talks about the project. He’s not limiting himself to genre boxes. Tango sits next to punk, electronic blends with alternative pop and urban sounds. It all serves this larger narrative he’s building. “Each song belongs to a larger story,” he says, and you can hear that he means it. There’s Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” DNA in here, some Vox Dei’s “La Biblia” influence, mixed with the world building approach of Bowie, Gorillaz, Kanye, Daft Punk.

The cinematic feel makes sense when you learn about the companion film. Yeah, there’s an entire Spanish language movie that expands what’s happening in the album. The tracks are in English, the film’s in Spanish. Two entry points into the same universe. That’s ambitious without being pretentious about it.

Gugliano keeps the live lineup fluid too. Different musicians for different seasons, different chapters. The story drives who plays what, not the other way around. Film directors like David Fincher, John Carpenter, and Gaspar Noé clearly left their mark on how he thinks about visuals and narrative structure.

“Brunio’s Mind” is streaming everywhere now. If you’re tired of albums that play it safe, this is worth your time.
