Billie Eilish, ‘My Future’ – Single Review

Popstar Billie Eilish is back with a new release, ‘My Future’. The singer who has recently become a global sensation has taken a more calming direction with a soft and gentle delivery which plucks at the heartstrings.

Often, switching up her sound, Billie delves into a new realm of pop here. She sounds unique as ever. But, her sound has never echoed quite as tender as it does with her angelic vocals mesmerising from the get-go. Musically, the singer takes us to a place of calm and tranquillity with a sound which leaves us feeling reclined in our chair.

Soft Approach

It kicks off with Eilish singing with her signature quality alongside a soft piano lead which many could argue isn’t quite as exhilarating as her previous scores. However, for me, I relish this new tone, and it isn’t long until Billie draws the energy with a steady beat appearing which clasps to us like a parasite. The structure of this piece is somewhat surprising. Especially, as it does not obey a clique pattern, so much so it is difficult to work out where the end of the verse and the chorus starts. Still, it keeps us speculating, and it opens up our imagination.

For me, put some bells on this piece, and it could instantly transform itself into a Christmas hit. In some ways, I feel that they may have missed a golden opportunity here. Furthermore, it sounds perfect for the winter months and it could have expeditiously become a festive favourite. Mind you; Billie may have a Christmas gem up her sleeve waiting to drop on us?
