Vinyl Floor Return With “Mr. Rubinstein,” A Tale of Clashing Egos | Music News

Danish duo Vinyl Floor are giving us the first taste of their upcoming album “Balancing Act” with “Mr. Rubinstein,” dropping October 31st. And this one’s got a story worth telling.

Real Confrontation

The track is based on a real confrontation between an artist and a critic. You know the kind: two stubborn people, both convinced they’re right, neither willing to budge an inch. Brothers Thomas Charlie Pedersen and Daniel Pedersen have channeled that entire mess into four minutes of simmering tension.

They recorded at Studio Möllan in Sweden with producer Emil Isaksson, then had Søren Vestergaard handle the mixing and mastering at the Shelter. The band pulled in some serious talent for this one. Bebe Risenfors, who’s worked with Tom Waits, laid down the horn parts. Christian Ellegaard’s string arrangements give the whole thing this eerie, unsettling feel that sticks with you.

Sweet Time

This isn’t the Vinyl Floor you might expect. “Mr. Rubinstein” takes its sweet time. Piano and organ lead the way, strings weave through everything, and the whole thing unfolds slowly, deliberately. It’s moody and a little menacing. The single edit runs 4:13, just a bit shorter than what we’ll hear on “Balancing Act” when it arrives February 27th, 2026.

Since 2007, Vinyl Floor has been building something special. They started with a foundation rooted in 60s and 70s British rock and kept adding to it. They’ve played over 200 shows across the UK, Germany, and Japan. “Balancing Act” will be their sixth album, following “Funhouse Mirror” in 2022, “Apogee” in 2018, “Vaudeville” in 2014, “Peninsula” in 2012, and their 2009 debut “Do You Still Dream.”
