Congratulations’ by Simple Plan – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★

Simple Plan, the Canadian pop-punk maestros, are back doing what they do best, churning out good old 2000s nostalgia with their newest single, ‘Congratulations’. The new song is off the band’s upcoming album, ‘Harder Than It Looks,’ which will be out on May 6th.

The band are always consistent; we always know what we’re going to get from them: high-quality emo rock, and this one is no exception. Furthermore, the drums kick things off in the overture with an infectious bite, alongside a crushing guitar riff that smacks us in the chops with its gritty texture.

Anthemic Vocal Delivery

Pierre Bouvier, the vocalist, demonstrates that he still has the magic touch. Also, his anthemic vocal delivery brings newfound vitality to the forefront of the song and the scene. His lyrics are indenting, and he speaks openly about someone who achieves something but most likely at the expense of others, and Pierre questions whether or not it was worth it for them. He also argues that it will eventually come back and bite them on the buttocks despite their initial victory.

Overall, this is a gift of a release from Simple Plan. Also, it will be an antidote for emo rock fans everywhere who enjoy the nostalgic sounds that rose out from the genre many years prior.
