A halt to Shakira’s El Dorado World Tour was announced as it planned to kick off in Cologne, Germany on November 8th for her 11th studio album, El Dorado released in May. Several dates were cancelled after this statement. Recently, she announced that the entire European leg of the tour is canceled due to a vocal cord hemorrhage. She still has not fully healed but will reschedule the tour.

Shakira stated the news on Facebook noting that she has prepared for the tour over 5 months and is sad to cancel, “just days before starting my first concerts, I had to live the hardest moments of my career.”

Her vocal chords were previously not experiencing problems and over the summer her vocal chords were in “perfect condition.” By October she felt worse, there was “an unusual hoarseness that prevented me from singing. The doctors detected that there had been a hemorrhage in my right vocal cord.”

She has taken a break and followed doctor’s orders but the bleeding has not subsided. The situation has never happened to Shakira before as she claimed, “in all the years that I have been singing, I never found myself in a similar situation. For this and with great regret I must announce that I am obliged to postpone my European tour until 2018, to allow my body some weeks necessary and dedicated to my full recovery.”

The rescheduled dates for the 15-date European shows have not yet been announced. Her North American leg of the tour has not been altered and will begin on January 9th in Orlando, Florida, and ends on February 10th in Las Vegas, Nevada unless further cancellation is necessary.
