On December 13, a Beatles box set signed and gifted by Paul McCartney to benefit the Manchester Victim’s Fund was auctioned off.

Sir Paul donated a special ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ six-disc Super Deluxe (50th Anniversary Edition) box set which he also offered to personalise.

It sold at Bonhams in London for £2,700 along with a waived commission fee in order to donate the buyer’s premium, bringing the total to £3,375.

The raised money will benefit two Scottish families who were affected by the terror attack that took place in the foyer of the Manchester Arena after an Ariana Grande concert and which killed 22 people on May 22.

Eilidh MacLeod, 14, tragically died in the attack while her friend Laura MacIntyre, 15, was left seriously injured. The pair from the Isle of Barra were attending the Ariana Grande concert with thousands of other music fans.

Eilidh was passionate about music and her parents, Roddy and Marion MacLeod, said: “we are extremely grateful for Sir Paul’s kind gesture. People’s generosity has helped us greatly in the aftermath of our loss and we can’t thank them enough”.

Also Laura’s father, Michael MacIntyre, described the gift as “an amazing and brilliant gesture”.

Mr. Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Manchester, recently claimed that the government has reimbursed Greater Manchester with just £12 million of the full £28 million required to cope with the aftermath of the attack.

The mayor also added that the venue reopening just under four months after the May attack was a “symbol of the city going back together, a symbol of defiance. Our determination, if you like.”

The arena officially reopened its doors last 9^th September with a special gig featuring Noel Gallagher, The Courteeners, Blossoms, Rick Astley, Pixie Lott, and X Factor’s Louisa Johnson among many others.
