Guide
I stumbled across “Good Shoes On” by the Lynne Jazz Ensemble last week, and I’ve been playing it on repeat ever since. There’s something incredibly refreshing about hearing a group that just gets it when it comes to classic jazz sounds.
Chris Weeks
Chris Weeks delivers the vocals on this track, and his voice has a warm, lived-in quality that reminds me why I fell in love with jazz in the first place. He doesn’t try to oversing or show off; instead, he lets the song breathe and tells the story exactly how it needs to be told. The composition itself, created by Pawel Orlow and Bjorn Lynne (with Lynne handling the lyrics), feels both familiar and fresh at the same time.
Production
What really strikes me about this ensemble is how they approach their music. They’re not trying to reinvent the wheel or add unnecessary modern flourishes. Instead, they understand that sometimes the best music comes from simply gathering talented musicians in a room with acoustic instruments and letting them do what they do best. The production feels intimate, like you’re sitting in a cozy jazz club somewhere, nursing a drink while these musicians work their magic just a few feet away.
I’ve also been diving into their other releases, particularly “Dream a Little Dream of Me” with Abigail Strickland and “S’Wonderful” featuring Chris Weeks again. Each track reveals their commitment to honoring the jazz tradition while bringing their own personality to these timeless songs. The way they invite different vocalists to collaborate adds variety to their sound without losing their core identity.
