Guide
There’s something beautiful about the way Kristen Budde tells a story, and her latest single “Regret” captures that talent in full bloom. Released on April 11, 2025, this Americana-meets-Country ballad is both deeply personal and quietly universal—anchored in memory, but reaching toward something greater.
Earlier Chapter
Written after revisiting a place tied to an earlier chapter in her life, “Regret” doesn’t wallow in the past. Moreover, it examines it with grace, acceptance, and a surprising sense of peace. Kristen’s vocals are reminiscent of Alison Krauss but entirely her own and they hold a rawness that feels lived-in and earned. She also walks the line between strength and softness naturally.
Organic Warmth
The arrangement is rich but never overbearing. There’s an organic warmth thanks to the talents of Sol Philcox-Littlefield on guitar, Jimbo Hart on bass, Grayson Wright on piano, and Justin Holder on drums and they wrap me up like a soft southern wind. Nicole Witt, who also produced the track, lends subtle harmony vocals that echo Kristen’s reflections like a trusted friend.
Sundrop Sound Studio
Recorded at Sundrop Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals and mastered by Parachute Mastering, “Regret” sounds as timeless as the themes it explores. It’s a graceful continuation of the journey Kristen began on her debut EP Begin Again, and a strong hint at the emotional depth we can expect on her sophomore album coming in 2026; big fan of this!
