Ed Christopher Sheeran , MBE is an English singer-songwriter, guitarist and record producer. He was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire and attended the Academy of Contemporary Music as an undergraduate from the age of18 in 2009. He began writing songs from a young age and sang in a local choir from the age of four.

In early 2011, Sheeran independently released the extended play “No. 5 Collaborations Project” but after signing with Asylum Records, his debut album “+” (read as plus) was released in September 2011. With this first album he gained mainstream attention for reaching number 2 in the iTunes Chart without any promotion and sold over 7000 copies in its first week. The first single, “The A Team” was released as a digital download and entered the UK Singles Chart at number three, selling over 58,000 copies in its first week. In fact, overall it was the eighth best-selling single in 2011 selling 801,000 copies. The song became a top ten hit in Australia, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway and the Netherlands. This album has been certified platinum six times and also reached the top five in the US.

Between 2012-2015 Ed Sheeran amassed a fortune from his music and has won various awards, which include four Brit Awards (Best British Male x2, British Breakthrough Act, British Album of the Year) and an Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year. He has won two MTV Europe Music Awards (Best Live Act and Best Live Stage) and was the recipient of the Breakthrough Award at the 2015 Billboard Touring Awards. His single “Thinking Out Loud” from hit second studio album “x” (read as multiply), reached number one in UK and spent eight weeks at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100. In 201 combined streams on Sheeran’s catalogue on Spotify reached 860 million and they named him the most streamed artist and “x” the most streamed album of that year. The single earned him two Grammy Awards (Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance) at the 2016 ceremony and later on that year, “x” was named the second best-selling album worldwide behind “25” by singer Adele.

Since then his third album “÷” (read as divide) was released in March 2017 and debuted at number one in the UK, US, Canada, Germany and Australia. With first week sales of 672,000 it is the fastest selling album by a male solo artist in the UK’s chart history. It also had the biggest first week sales of 2017 in the US. The first two singles released, “Shape of You” and “Castle on the Hill” entered the UK Singles Chart at number one and two, which waxtbe first time in history an artist had taken the top two UK chart positions with new songs. Both singles went on to break Spotify’s day one streaming record, with a combined total of over 13 million streams in 24 hours.
