Katy Perry is flying high with her new release ‘What Makes A Woman’ which comes from her upcoming album ‘Smile’. The album is out on the 28th of August.

For me, it is one of the most poignant tracks to date from Perry who unleashes an emotive performance with her vocals hitting home with genuine conviction. However, I could not help but find a close similarity with Miley Cyrus’ hit single ‘The Climb’. It has a very comparable melody. However, not many appear to have picked up on it just yet. Therefore, you will have to take a listen and decide for yourself.

Gentle

‘What Makes A Woman’ is a relaxing release with a gentle beat tapping away in the background. Also, plenty of harmonic sounds pop out of the tight mix. It kicks off with a soothing guitar lead which pierces with sentimental quality. We are then in with a strong vocal from Katy who has recently stated that she has had to come down a few keys on the vocal scale while being pregnant.

The meaning of the track symbolises womanhood and Perry gets to the bottom of her heart with her singing with genuine integrity. Also, it takes us deeper into Perry’s experiences with the rest of the album following a similar direction. Furthermore, Perry wrote “I wrote the title track from the album when I was coming through one of the darkest periods of my life and had lost my smile. This whole album is my journey toward the light — with stories of resilience, hope and love.”

Overall, this album could easily be Katy’s best work. Furthermore, it appears fans cannot contain their excitement for the new album and who can blame them.
