Drake has intensified his lawsuit with Universal Music Group (UMG), submitting a second petition in Texas over Kendrick Lamar’s provocative diss hit “Not Like Us”. Originally a viral smash earlier this year, the song accuses the “One Dance” rapper of being a pedophile—allegations Drake angrily disputes.
Reputation
Drake’s legal team says in the lawsuit “Not Like Us” seriously tarnished his reputation by fabricating false and defamatory accusations including allegations of illegal sexual behaviour. They contend that instead of stopping the use of the provocative lyrics, UMG officials enhanced the situation for their own financial benefit.
Pay-To-Play
The filing also implicates iHeartRadio, accusing the network of participating in a “pay-to-play scheme” to boost the track’s popularity, possibly through covert payments from UMG.
This Texas petition follows a similar pre-action submission Drake filed in New York earlier this week. That filing accused UMG of collaborating with Spotify to artificially inflate Not Like Us’s popularity.
UMG Deny Allegations
UMG has denied all allegations, calling the claims “offensive and untrue.” A representative stated, “No amount of contrived legal arguments can mask the fact that fans choose the music they want to hear.”
