Guide
Hello, barDe! What Do You Enjoy Most About Being A Musician In 2025?
Aside from the actual creative process of songwriting, playing and production, having immediate access to connect with people through social media is very enjoyable. I would not be here songwriting and playing if it weren’t for people’s encouragement in my little online community which has more recently become public.
Which Track Of Yours Means The Most To You?
Because I am a storyteller all my songs are very important to me. But the title track from my upcoming album “The Pretty Red Flag Revival” Pretty Red Flags is very special. My producer, Chris Pepper at Saltwell Studios, worked some musical magic on it – including using a handheld fan! – and it is really beautiful.
The First-Ever Gig You Played, Can You Remember It? How Was It?
My first gig was at The Eagle Inn in Salford, I chose it as one of my favourite Manchester 80s bands – The Chameleons – had played an intimate gig there 6 months before and I just wanted to perform on the same stage! There were about 25 people and I had a great party afterwards as I knew most of them!
What Do You Think Is The Key To Success As A Musician?
Creating a world your listeners can enter through your lyrics, sound palette, and beyond through to the visual experience. Tapping into a collective emotion that individual people can really resonate with.
If You Wasn’t A Musician, What Job Would You Be Doing?
I am doing another job too. I am the Director of a charity and I also love that. However writing is part of my DNA, I have to capture the words and melodies that run through my head and craft them into little gems I can share.
