The Weeknd has just dropped his new single ‘After Hours’ which is taken from his new album of the same name.

Although not instantly as likeable as his previous hit ‘Blinding Lights’, ‘After Hours’ does tick the right boxes. It starts with the singers signature vocal sound which opens up with a dreamy esque vibe.

This links perfectly with his opening line “Thought I almost died in my dream again (Baby, almost died)”. Moreover, it starts in a subdued manner which works. Also, it takes us back to his more unhurried tracks which we have not heard as much in recent times.

Chill sums this track up for me. It’s an easy one to listen to and it’s refreshing to hear The Weeknd finding a new direction with his music. But, I do not think it needs to be a whopping 6 minutes in length with the majority of it summed up well before that. Nevertheless, I do like it so I am happy to hang around with it!

Solid Release

Overall its a solid release from The Weeknd and to be honest the Canadian can not do much wrong at the moment. But does that mean to say I think that it’s better than his ‘Blinding Lights’ release back in November? No. But, that track was always going to be a hard one to follow up on.

Furthermore, if you are looking for a track which is going to increase your endorphins then this one is probably not for you. But if you are after something which does promote quality and keeps you hooked then look no further.
