DID YOU KNOW??? Lady Gaga was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. She is probably one of the most talented artists around. Known to the world as a singer first and foremost, she is also an accomplished songwriter. One of her most successful pieces includes smash hit ‘When I Grow Up’ which was created for the Pussycat Dolls.
Lady Gaga starting out
From a very young age, Gaga knew she wanted to perform for a living. She studied at Tisch School of the Arts, New York which led her to progress through to the Collaborative Arts Project. Gaga dropped out to pursue a career in music. Lady Gag first got her foot in the door via Def Jam records. However, it wasn’t meant to be as they cancelled her contract. Stefani did not give up however and got herself into Sony/ATV where she worked as a songwriter.
Her musical career
During her time at Sony, Akon discovered her talent and helped her sign a joint deal with Interscope Records and his own label in 2007. Her first single, Just Dance smashed the charts and sold over 65,000 copies. It was number one within a week of its’ release and remained there for three weeks on the UK singles chart. She then came back to smash the charts again with ‘Poker Face’, ‘Bad Romance’ and ‘Telephone’ which saw her collaborate with Beyoncé. They later came back to record ‘Video Phone’ together.
How did Gaga get her name?
Lady Gaga was known as Stefani whilst in the studio during her early days as a start-up musician. However, one day, director and music producer Rob Fusari compared her singing style to Freddy Mercury. This came about after she sang ‘Radio Gaga’.
Lady Gaga recently performed in her first ever film A Star Is Born. She took centre stage alongside Bradley Cooper and together they recreated a classic which broke the box office and all expectations in the first couple of weeks.
However, whatever she does, it is undeniable that Lady Gaga is extremely talented. It would be wonderful to see her in more films and perhaps a couple musicals.
