Jason Callear stopped by for a chat!

Colby: Hello, Jason. When did you first get into music?

Jason: The earliest memory for me is about 3-4 years old in the mid 1970’s with my Grandmas Dansette record player, a box full of 60’s singles that my Dad would have bought and just being a little DJ on stop overs.

Colby: What was the first track you listened to that made you think, ‘Wow’?

Jason: Ooh! So difficult as there were so many but I do recall the obsession with Tubular Bells and the notion that one person could assemble the entire track which started my drive to be a writer and recording artist! Then I was also obsessed with Queen, the variety and unique sound and I wanted to play all those instruments. I loved the first track from side ‘B’ of their second album Queen II called ‘Ogre Battle’.

Colby: What comes first for you, the lyrics or the music?

Jason: Usually the melody but I do tend to get a few key lyrics quite quickly from which to develop the story, or it might be that the sound triggers a theme so ‘almost’ a simultaneous process. I do admit it can sometimes take a long time to finish lyrics.

Colby: Lastly, what else do you have in store for 2023?

Jason: Lots in store. Supporting Sarah Riches at the Jam House Birmingham April 19th, going to release a couple more singles and the full album ‘Train Rolls On’ in October to pave the way for a ton of new material in ‘24. Hoping also for a potential collaboration with another very successful UK Country artist very soon! Please follow my links for all the details and thanks for the chat! Jason.
