Ervin Munir, “When I Think” – New Music

Norfolk based folk singer-songwriter Ervin Munir returns with his third studio album, When I Think, released on 6th February, and it is a record that genuinely deserves attention.

Honest Words

Across 11 tracks, Ervin builds something that feels considered without ever feeling overworked. The album opens with Lifeline and moves through a range of emotional spaces, threading piano melodies and raw, honest storytelling. The writing sits somewhere between confession and conversation, the kind of lyrics that land differently depending on what you are carrying when you listen.

Folk Arrangements

What keeps the album interesting is how it refuses to stay in one lane. Stripped back folk arrangements give way to moments where the guitars push in with a rocky energy, and those shifts feel natural rather than jarring. There is a live, unpolished quality to the production that works in its favour.

Rainfall Memories, I Don’t Care and One Step Beyond are among the standout moments, each one distinct and each one pulling its weight. The title track, accompanied by an animated video, sits at the centre of the record and captures what Ervin does well, writing songs that make you feel something without spelling out exactly what that something is.

The album carries real emotional weight off the back of its dedication to the late Aeron Z Jones, Ervin’s long-term producer and close friend. Aeron shaped the sound of Munir’s previous releases and his influence runs through this record too. It is a fitting tribute to a creative partnership that clearly meant a great deal.
