Guess who’s back? Back again? Shady’s back, tell a friend…I won’t continue the song but there is something about Eminem’s music that has personally kept me a fan for years. The love for his music grew on me since I was 14 and I have been listening ever since. I even have his autobiography that I managed to read in a day. It’s very obvious to fans such as myself that Eminem has not always been at the peak. His Relapse album didn’t go too well and at a time in his life when he was spiraling, people heard that in his music.
A few years down the line and his Revival album well and truly revives the music he should be creating and he even collaborates with superstar Beyonce to create the single “Walk on water.”
His new album- Kamikaze draws us well and truly back to the Slim Shady era of music. In a surprise today via Twitter, he gave us the brand new 13 track album with the simple tagline: “Tried not 2 overthink this 1- enjoy.”
He’s already caused a stir picking fights with Donald Trump, Chance the Rapper and Drake on the album, he’s re-featured the well-known skit with manager Paul Rosenberg, and even talks about his late best friend and band member Proof who was shot back in 2006 at a nightclub. Royce Da 5”9 is back on the album and some new faces join Eminem’s’ list of collaborations including Lil Pump and Lil Yachty.
It’s exciting to see such a musical talent rise from the depths and refresh the music world with something we have all needed- Music that isn’t pop and an excuse to have a good old rant. I’m excited to see what happens next.
Apple Music couldn’t have put it better when they simply wrote on their album notes- “Shady punches back, and he’s naming names.”
