As Christmas approaches, the race is on in the music universe to gain the coveted title of Christmas number one. We’ve seen everything over the years during the festive season. We’ve gone from the unbeatable ‘Last Christmas’ by the late but never forgotten George Michael, to the rebellious ‘Killing In The Name Of’ by Rage against the Machine; a song that fought the battle and won against the X Factor winner back in 2011.
This year, there seems to be an Italian beauty aiming for the coveted golden statue. BRIT nominated Carly Paoli has released a new song in time for the festivities entitled ‘My Christmas Dream Is You’. She is a classically trained singer who was born on British soil in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
The song aims to shed light on people who await their loved ones eagerly to come home after fighting in the army. It’s clear the song honours the veterans who bravely fought for us and for those who train to protect the nation and its people. Carly sends shivers right up my arms from the first note. Her diction is perfect- you can hear every single important word which gives the song an even more powerful emotion. The orchestra synthesize with her on an incredibly accurate scale, It’s difficult not to feel emotional watching the imagery with the music. You can see real images from real people- soldiers interacting with children of the country the are stationed in, husbands hugging their wives after so long- a reunion of families.
This song is so appealing simply because it’s beautifully plain. There’s no fancy insruments, no heavy beats, it’s soft and smooth and screams feelgood throughout. I would definitely support Paoli towards a number one spot for 2018 and look forward to seeing her in our charts for many more Christmases to come.
