Today we can reveal which track was the best selling single of 2019. Last year was an excellent year for music, and it brought with it heaps of quality records which are going to make the history books.

But, I doubt the best seller will come as a big shock. Especially to anyone who keeps a close eye on the chart. So who gets the top spot? Billie Eilish with her stellar release ‘Bad Guy’. It is a worthy winner and does not come as a surprise to any of us here at GSGM. The track is monumental, and I doubt many will be able to argue with its position.

Close Finish

Nevertheless, other great releases from the year closely followed behind. A close contender is Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road’ which took off like wildfire thanks to the hugely popular social media app TikTok. Behind ‘Old Town Road’ came ‘Senorita’, ‘Sunflower’ and ‘7 Rings’.

Although Billie takes home the best selling single achievement, she did, however, miss out on the best selling artist. Furthermore, it is Swifty who claims this status for a second time having taken the throne previously back in 2014. Either way, they have all deserved their spot, and it proves just how prominent pop music is within the global music industry.

The genre keeps on growing year on year. But, it is hardly a massive shift with the pop genre being the most exciting area of music for many decades now. It would be refreshing though to hear a rockier track make it into the top positions, especially being an avid indie-rock fan myself. But, who knows, there is always next year.
