AJ Whyte, the breakout artist from the UK stopped by for a chat!

Colby: What Do You Enjoy Most About Being A Musician?

AJ Whyte: The biggest buzz I get is creating a piece of music that creates a response in those that listen to it. If just one person says “that moved me” it feels fantastic. I also love the camaraderie amongst the musicians I meet and work with – overall we are a very supportive bunch!

Colby: Which Track Of Yours Means The Most To You?

AJ Whyte: I would have to say my new release “You Won’t Hear Me”. Not just because it is my latest song but because I mean and have experienced every single word in it. It is really how I feel.

Colby: The First-Ever Gig You Played, Can You Remember It? How Was It?

AJ Whyte:  It was an open mic. Nervous! I made the mistake of playing my most difficult song first in the set. Shaky fingers and choked voice. Other performers were playing well known covers so I was asking a lot to get the audience on board with stuff they had never heard. However, when I saw some feet tapping I relaxed and didn’t look back.

Colby:  What Do You Think Is The Key To Success As A Musician?

AJ Whyte: Work hard, expect nothing and celebrate everything! Say “yes” to all opportunities that come your way. Treat it  like any other craft – the more you do it the better you will get. Work with other musicians – often with those who have a different style. Write and play what you enjoy and don’t second guess your audience. If you enjoy the music you create and play, the chances are that there will be others out there who do too.

Colby: If You Wasn’t A Musician, What Job Would You Be Doing?

AJ Whyte: A long distance lorry driver – lots of time to listen to music!
