A post-fame life isn’t an easy one. ‘Special Appearances’ and character diminishing Club Nights aren’t how you wish to be dolling out your talent, but it pays the bills. It isn’t, however, the only way to stuff a bit of cash in to your back pocket, as demonstrated by S Club 7’s Paul Cattermole.
Cattermole’s BRIT Award, which he one during his time with the pop super-group, is currently on Ebay. At the time of writing the top bid stands at a whopping £66,000. It seems the former sensation has found a financial route that manages to dodge the Christmas Lights Ceremony of towns like Sevenoaks, Hythe or maybe Thatcham, or something.
Cattermole was with the band from 1998 to 2002, just before their split in 2003. The award up for grabs is one of two that he won with S Club 7; British Breakthrough Act. His other trophy, for Best British Single, is staying in the cabinet. For the time being, at least.
This is not the first time one of these awards has been flogged online. Abz, from 5ive, sold his BRIT in 2015 for over £1 million. Cattermole could follow in his footsteps, as he said he “didn’t expect” the price to “skyrocket like this”.
In the description of the listing, it is stated that, “it hasn’t been professionally polished, there are smudges that won’t come out without a pro polish.” So if you were planning on bidding for a BRIT Award without some small amounts of superficial damage, then think again.
It also says, “Paul can meet you and greet you and take photos, distance depending.” Again, if you were planning on buying this just for the meet-and-greet, but you live far away from Cattermole, please re-think.
Whatever you may think, there’s no denying that this is a good hustle.
